PAM strengthens Euro-Mediterranean, Gulf and African parliamentary cooperation through key agreements in Marrakesh

19 June 2026, Marrakesh, Kingdom of Morocco – On the occasion of the Fourth Edition of the Marrakesh Economic Parliamentary Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Region, convened by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) and the House of Councillors of the Kingdom of Morocco, under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in partnership with the Parliamentary Network of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), several major institutional agreements were formalized to further strengthen interregional parliamentary cooperation.

PAM signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Association of Senates, Shoora and Equivalent Councils of Africa and the Arab World (ASSECAA), marking an important step towards closer cooperation between Africa and the Euro-Mediterranean region.

The agreement was signed by H.E. Hon. Mohamed Ould Errachid, President of the House of Councillors of the Kingdom of Morocco and President of ASSECAA and H.E. Hon. Giulio Centemero, President of PAM. Through this partnership, PAM and ASSECAA will promote closer and well-structured institutional dialogue, parliamentary exchanges, and joint initiatives in support of sustainable development, regional integration, and interregional cooperation.

A second Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the House of Councillors of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), further strengthening parliamentary cooperation between Morocco and West African States.

The agreement was signed by H.E. Mr. Mohamed Ould Errachid, and H.E. Mme. Hadja Mémounatou Ibrahima, President of the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). It aims to foster dialogue, coordination, and cooperation on issues of shared interest.

The Forum also saw the adoption of a Joint Declaration on the launch of the structuring project of the PAM Marrakesh Economic Parliamentary Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Region. This initiative aims to consolidate the Forum as a long-term concrete platform for parliamentary economic dialogue, policy coordination, and cooperation among the Euro-Mediterranean, Gulf and African regions.
